Description

A view of the Elbridge Hadley Stuart Suart Wing from the southeast. This was the main entrance to the library, which was located approximately at the foot of the main straircase in the library, near the entrance to what is now the cafe. The In 1971, Evelyn Clark Stuart, Whitman '28, encouraged her husband to donate his collection of books, furniture, and artifacts associated with Napoleon Bonaparte and the Napoleonic era to Whitman. Then President Donald Sheehan arranged with the Stuarts to house the collection with the caveat that they help to finance an expansion of Penrose Library.
