Gender Neutral Housing

Dublin Core

Description

On February 24, 2013, the Associated Students of Whitman College adopted a resolution calling for gender-neutral housing. The resolution called for Whitman’s administration to provide a gender-neutral housing option for incoming first year students. The Office of Residence Life and Housing changed their policy towards second year students, but has yet to change the policy for incoming first years. In earlier years, financially dependent second year students required parental consent to room with members of the opposite sex, but under new terms parental consent is no longer necessary. Meaning that transgendered individuals have an option of rooming with members of their own gender with or without parental approval.
